Trick-or-treating is a custom for children on Halloween. Children proceed in costume from house to house, asking for treats, or sometimes money, with the question, "Trick or treat?" The "trick" is an idle threat to perform mischief on the homeowners or their property if no treat is given.
In the United States, trick-or-treating is one of the main traditions of Halloween and is socially expected that if one lives in a neighborhood with children one should purchase treats in preparation for trick-or-treaters.
- Costumes - Halloween costumes are traditionally those of monsters such as ghosts, skeletons, witches, and devils. Costumes are also based on themes other than traditional horror, such as those of characters from television shows, movies, and other pop culture icons.
- Apple-Bobbing - A common game for Halloween is dunking or apple bobbing. Apples float in a tub of water the person must use their teeth to remove an apple from the tub.
- "Kill-the-Witch" Game - Kids can play a "kill the witch game" by drawing and coloring a witch on a large piece of paper, cutting out circles from black construction paper and sticking tape on the back to make the witch's warts. Then blindfold the players, spin them around three times and have them pin ugly warts on the witch. The player who sticks the wart closest to the nose wins.
